Hall of fame - Vaskebjørn

This VB is tied with the "old" keough saltwater grizzly cape that had more grizzled hackle fibers. It looks a litle bit diffrent from the ones I make to day but I do not think the fish sees the different from this one to the one I tie with the whiting rooster cape grizzly cape today.

It`s tied on a Partridge CS 54 SW size 2, and the hacklefibers are verry long inn the back and I made it pretty translucent with sealfur naturell. The trigger point, with sealfur fluo red, gave the fly an agressiv and good look. Even the seatrout liked it verry well to. While the fly is sinking, the long hacklefibers in the back wiggels and looks like legs on a shrimp.

This VB is tied on a Partridge cs 54 size 2. This one does not have the long hacklefibers in the back. So here I tied inn som fibers from a "grey squrril tail" and two strains of krystal flash pearl.  The seatrout that took this fly took it while the fly was sinking before I had started to pull inn the fly.

It took the fly and I set the hook and the fish went "bananas" and jumped straight to the sky and emptied my real, fast.

After about a 100 meter`s pure mayham the hook came loos. I think that was, to this date, the biggest seatrout I every have inncountered.

The fly is well taken cear of and it´s framed inn. R.I.P.

Vaskebjørn Naturell " Old school Bear"

2001, tied by Christian Schanche

Here is a Vaskebjørn I got from Christian Schanche all the way back in 2001. This one is tied with hackle from a Metz Rooster cape. It`s tied on a partridge CS 54 SW size 2. The body is tied with sealfur naturell. It got squirrl fibers as antennas and three strains of krystal flash pearl for feelers. The brown color in the back is rust from the bead chain eyes.

Vaskebjørn size 6

Vbsize6.jpg

This is how i tie my VB in size 6. As you can see I have just three sections of hackle. It makes the fly look more translucent and smaller, what I want in this size 6 fly.  It`s tied on the owner kappa hook. I tie all my shrimp flies on this hook now and I am verry pleased with it. This one has given me many seatrout´s in the last years. VB in size 6 is a "must have" fly for me. It`s tied with my own sealfure mix: Sealfur naturell with a litle bit of uv pearl mixed in to it.

Materials

Hook: Partridge CS 54 size 2.

Hackle: "The old" keough saltwater grizzly.

Eyes: Bead chain medium black.

Boddy: Uni Yarn fluo yellow.

Materials

Hook: Owner kappa size 6.

Hackle: American rooster cape Grizzly.

Vaskebjørn Spey size 2

2012, tied by Eivind Berulfsen

vaskenjorn1.jpg

Here is my Vaskebjørn spey version. I use this for my summerfishing for seatrout and seabass. It´s made with the same materials that I use for size 4,6 and 8. The onely thing I add is the feelers from gray squirrl. This fly is a big fly. I fish this fly during the day and also in the night.

I use the biggest hackle from the backpart of the cape. I do not use whiting speyhackles because I think they are to soft and does not push as much water.

Materials

Hook: Owner kappa size 2.

Hackle: American whiting rooster cape.

Eyes: Bead chain medium black.

Boddy: Selfur naturell, with a litle bit of uv pearl dubb.

Butt: Sealfur fluo red.

Head: Red.

Vaskebjørn has more or less taken over my flybox. I find that on almost every trip it is the first fly i think on when I am opening my flybox. It has cought me many fish over the years and it is getting more and more my "first choice" of all seatrout flies. Here are some flies I have in my arcive att home. They all have a good story to tell.

All the best Eivind Berulfsen.
